The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, is Europe's leading research facility for scientific research using neutrons. Every year, we host over 2000 visits by scientists, who come to the Institute to carry out world-class research.

We currently have a vacancy for a:
Systems and Network Administrator
Duties:
As an enthusiastic member of the ILL's "Network and Data Services" group, you will take an active part in the following activities:
- Design and implementation of new solutions,
- Assisting with technical projects for the ILL's IT Service,
- Maintenance of existing systems in operational condition.
You will also be involved in support, maintenance and development activities in the following areas:
- systems and network services (100 servers),
- storage systems ( ~ 1PB),
- systems for archiving, accessing and analysing experimental data,
- the network (200 switches/routers and 150 access points).
Qualifications and experience:
You must have a Level 5 qualification (HND or equivalent) together with some initial professional experience in systems and network administration.
We are looking for a dynamic team player who is proactive in putting forward ideas and solutions and can make a valuable contribution to the management of projects.
Mandatory IT skills:
- Proficiency in Debian/Ubuntu GNU/Linux,
- Experience in the use of an automation tool (Ansible, Puppet, Chef, etc.),
- Basic knowledge of network administration (VLAN, IP routing, firewalling),
- Basic knowledge of storage systems (ZFS, GPFS, Ceph, etc.).
The solutions used by the ILL include:
- Debian, Ubuntu, CentOS/Redhat, Opensuse, Windows Server,
- File systems: ZFS, GPFS, Ceph,
- File sharing protocols: NFS, NFSv4, Samba,
- LDAP (openldap), Radius (Freeradius), Kerberos and SSO,
- HAProxy / UCarp / Keepalive,
- CheckMK,
- Postfix/Dovecot, DHCP, DNS,
- Cisco Access Point and WLC controller,
- Extreme Network - EXOS, Dynamic routing, VRRP, MLAG.
Language skills:
As an international research centre, we are particularly keen to ensure that we also attract applicants from outside France. You must have a sound knowledge of English and be willing to learn French (a language course will be paid for by the ILL). Knowledge of German would be an advantage.

Medical fitness for work under ionising radiation is required.
Post based in Grenoble and subject to administrative screening.
