The Machine Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Systems Engineering and Engineering Process Coordinator.

The Integrated Control System division needs to engage in the definition and management of multi-disciplinary system developments. This means that ICS needs to:

• establish, govern, improve and drive life cycle management for multi-disciplinary systems
• facilitate good understanding and documentation of the system user domains
• facilitate progress in the engineering information management domain

As Systems Engineering and Engineering Process Coordinator you are responsible for establishing, governing, improving and driving the implementation of engineering processes at the Integrated Control System division. The division interacts with a very large number of internal and external stakeholders and coordination is of utmost importance to facilitate deliveries according to project plans. Coordination of such a diverse set of stakeholders needs a solid foundation of processes to be efficient.

As Systems Engineering and Engineering Process Coordinator you are also responsible for managing methods for the creation and governance of technical documentation in order to keep it systematic and process-compliant.

The ICS team is a highly international team of control system specialists. The team size will vary between 30 – 70 people during different phases of the ESS construction project. In this environment it is important that you have the right combination of driving, listening and coordination skills to be able to establish and adapt processes for maximum practical applicability and efficiency.

You are expected to be an active and driving contributor in the ICS management team.
You are expected to travel to a moderate extent, primarily within Europe.

Qualifications: Required competencies:
•    PhD in Engineering management or similar
•    Excellent knowledge with a broad theoretical background about systems engineering, information management, systems architecture including experience on practical application
•    Good knowledge on quality management
•    Good knowledge and experience with control systems, specifically for accelerator based research or development facilities
•    Knowledge and experience on particle accelerators including technical knowledge but also how resources and stakeholders work with the systems

The following experiences are considered as beneficial but not required:
•    Working within scientific/academic environments
•    Experience from EPICS-based control system software or similar
•    General understanding of electronics/hardware and software interaction
•    Knowledge or certification in project management

•    Ability to explore and balance a wide span of viewpoints, including technical, information management, customer/stakeholder value, process/quality, and organizational viewpoints
•    Ability to anticipate and describe impact of decisions in technology, engineering practices, systems engineering and information management
•    Ability to balance conceptual thinking with the practical reality and ability to tailor system engineering methods, concepts, information structures, processes to different stakeholders to optimize impact and efficiency
•    Pedagogical skills to embrace stakeholders with different views and explain systems engineering and information management concepts
•    Patience and perseverance

You have a collaborative mindset and enjoy contributing to and driving a dynamic team. As a Systems Engineering and Engineering Process Coordinator, we expect you to have all the needed people skills to fulfil the tasks in a high performing and dynamic team.
Your presentation and language skills are also important to us. Excellent communication skills are required and you must be able to explain/simplify complex hardware-software interactions and system integration for other developers/users/customers. You have good knowledge of different project methodologies and experience applying them.

Duration & Location
The position is permanent with six months initial probationary period. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden.
