To deliver on Northvolt’s vision and bold expansion plans we have established the Factory Design & Engineering team (FD&E). The team’s mission is to deliver a digital factory Blueprint of a scalable, rapidly deployable, highly efficient world-class battery factory. It constitutes a comprehensive solution with guidelines and tools needed for establishment of the factory spanning process, equipment, materials, facility, utilities, and people.
To summarize, FD&E is a highly strategic but also execution-oriented and cross-functional team which aids Northvolt in our mission to enable the future of energy.
Job Scope
As a Team Lead Technical Integration Engineer you will be a key member of the technical integration team, leading the engineers in project delivery as discipline technical expert, responsible for modelling the manufacturing process functions through compiling and creating documentation to aid with the new factory designs all the way from concept through to commissioning and obtaining a site operating permit. Supporting the management in both technical and strategic direction for critical elements in Northvolt’s global footprint.
The role will include working closely with the Research & Development, Manufacturing Engineering, Factory Design, Construction, Commissioning and Operations teams in order to obtain data that can feed future designs for our upcoming greenfield & brownfield projects. Directing resource both internal and external to match the planning to delivery phases of our core projects.
The team leader is a critical position in defining the foundations of how our manufacturing plants work, defining the total site operational requirements in both static & dynamic performance.
You will act as the owner for the technical data to ensure that the information is packaged in the right way for communicating between the various teams, helping to design solutions that will work together seamlessly to enable safe and efficient operation, directing the team members and targeting personal growth of the FD&E team.
Key Responsibilities
Create, compile, update, review and approve the integrated technical documentation at process area, factory and site level (E.g. Block Flow Diagrams, Process Flow Diagrams, Utility Flow Diagrams, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams, Mass & Energy Balances, Equipment Lists, Utility Summaries and Process Descriptions).
Set and lead priorities for technical integration and develop key relationships with critical stakeholders.
Define and deliver core reporting for programme management, outlining performance and achievements of required KPI’s.
Develop and enforce company standards & guidelines for factory design and operation. Ensure adherence to internal policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
Technically lead contractors and consultants to ensure the above standards are being achieved and that there is cohesion of engineering design and practice across projects.
Attend HAZIDs, HAZOPs, LOPAs, design and model reviews, project review workshops, process safety workshops to give guidance
Provide input on and review Inspection & Test Plan/Quality Control requirements for utilities equipment vendor packages,
Provide support to Project Construction team(s) for field process engineering issues. Support by management and resolution of queries & issues with aid from internal & external resources.
Establish and maintain feedback loops with site project and operations teams to aid with continuous improvement.
Validation & optimization of our utility requirements using measured data from our existing factories, best practice and simulations. Also to form a close working relationship with the Digital Twin team.
Lead initiatives focused on designing technologies and processes to mitigate environmental risks. Conduct energy audits, process energy calculations, and help to develop payback calculations for sustainability projects.
Mentor and provide support for team members.

Requirements
Qualifications and experience
Process or Chemical Engineering degree, BSc, or equivalent certification in a relevant field
Professional Engineering (PE) license or another professional accreditation is preferred but not required
Extensive experience in industrial utility system design and engineering, particularly in the battery materials or chemical processing industry (10 years or more)
Experience in supporting other project functions with input, including estimating, scheduling, HSE risk assessments, model reviews, and constructability reviews.
Previous experience with large-scale greenfield projects, particularly in the Battery Materials or Oil & Gas industries, is strongly desirable but not essential.
Familiarity with Swedish, German, European and North American laws, regulations and standards is strongly desirable but not essential.
Open to frequent travel for collaboration with the engineering contractor, and equipment vendors.
Valuable experience in multicultural environment
Fluency in English

Specific skills
Proficient in MS Suite.
Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD…) is preferred but not required.
Fluency in other languages (Swedish, German, French).
Ability to work under high pressure and tight deadlines.
