Team Leader ADME and Biotransformation

Main Responsibilities and Duties

As Head of ADME and Biotransformation you will be responsible for leading a team consisting of ADME, biotransformation and bioanalytical scientists within the DMPK department in the Cardiovascular & Metabolic Diseases Innovative Medicine unit (CVMD iMed). This is a leadership and scientific role which requires involvement in the drug discovery process from target selection to life cycle management of small molecules as well as peptides and nucleotides.

You will ensure recruitment, training, development and deployment of resources to optimize project delivery as well as the continuous development of ADME and biotransformation as a discipline. You will work collaboratively with colleagues within the CVMD iMed, other DMPK departments and relevant functions to ensure scientific and timely delivery of ADME, biotransformation and bioanalysis input to projects, ensuring progression of projects. In addition, you are expected to drive the science in the relevant areas.

You will work closely with the Head of CVMD iMed DMPK as well as its Leadership Team to create a highly effective and scientifically strong organisation to ensure support for projects across the portfolio and delivery of project milestones.


You will:
be responsible for managing all aspects of the output of the team. This includes responsibility for setting and maintaining the highest scientific standards, developing scientific competence, providing flexible project support, and motivating and developing team members to maximize their potential.
lead a team of biotransformation, ADME and bioanalytical scientists delivering in alignment with project needs; will lead by example making personal contributions to the experimental work of the team

in collaboration with the design team, team members/self, be responsible to provide advice to drug design teams.

be responsible for flexible use of the team skills and resource to support projects according to agreed needs and project priorities


ensure stretch objectives, individual development plans, performance evaluations, salary and bonus setting for all team members


develop, coach, mentor, motivate and inspire scientists; create and maintain a work environment in which scientific challenge and innovation are maximized.


ensure compliance with corporate policies including General Laboratory Standards, SHE and code of conduct


as part of the department leadership, influence the strategic direction of the team, department and the CVMD iMed.

collaborate cross-disciplines, to shape and advance the scientific direction of projects to maximize project progress.

support the DMPK head to provide scientific leadership to the portfolio/project governance body of CVMD iMed
