Team Leader and Associate Principal Scientist - Bioanalysis

Arbetsbeskrivning

Are you an expert in bioanalysis of oligonucleotides and mass spectrometry? Would you like apply your scientific leadership in a company that push the boundaries of science and collaborate with diverse minds? Join us to discover future treatment of Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolic diseases!

At AstraZeneca, you will be empowered to be innovative and creative where difference is valued. We thrive in a place where the brightest and most curious minds seamlessly come together in our inclusive environment. We are committed to the development of next generation innovative medicines and are expanding our cross-functional oligonucleotide capability for the treatment of diseases across therapy areas.

Now we are recruiting two experienced bioanalysis specialists, one Team leader and one Associate Principal Scientist, to join the Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) department within Research and Early Development Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism (CVRM). The positions are placed at AstraZeneca's dynamic R&D center in Gothenburg, Sweden.

CVRM is one of the three main therapeutic research areas within AstraZeneca which deliver candidate drugs into clinical development. The DMPK bioanalysis team delivers fundamental understanding of drug disposition, which includes responsibility for bioanalysis of drug candidates in biological samples generated in non-clinical studies. The data generated is mainly aimed to provide insight to quantitative pharmacology as well as right tissue and right exposure aspects, including the fate of drug substances and metabolites. These both roles will expand our capability regarding bioanalysis of new modality drugs with focus on oligonucleotides, and stretching to other drug modalities , e.g. peptides, PROTACs, or small molecules and drug conjugates. You will contribute to the discovery of new life changing medicines for patients and demonstrate and witness what science can do.

What you'll do

You will act as an expert in your area, providing proficient scientific advice on bioanalysis of oligonucleotide drugs and conjugates to project teams. These are both lab-based scientific leadership roles. The Team Leader will have the additional responsibility of leading a dedicated Bioanalysis team. You will be performing high quality bioanalysis, driving development of bioanalytical techniques and methodologies in parallel with supporting non-clinical studies with quantitative analysis.

* Responsible for analysing drug candidates and their metabolites in various in vitro and in vivo samples including sub-cellular fractions as well as tissues, plasma and bile samples to support Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics (PKPD) work in projects from target selection to life cycle management
* Effective communication to provide clear data and guidance to project representatives, you act as an example to other scientists and contribute directly to the overall team delivery.
* Identify new approaches and technologies that would improve our ability to support projects, with the necessary quality and scientific input aligned with drug project needs.
* Make judgements about bioanalytical input, develop innovative solutions and apply inter-disciplinary and industry understanding.
* Plan and report all work to appropriate standards (Good Laboratory Standard) and keep project teams appraised of findings
* Drive the science of relevant areas of research, make scientific and equipment investment proposals to drive state-of-the art LC-MS bioanalysis
* Write manuscripts and publish research together with external/internal collaborators
* The Team Leader will, in addition to above, be responsible for resourcing and prioritisation within bioanalysis, provide line management to the bioanalysis specialists in CVRM-DMPK, and drive performance-development of direct reports

* PhD with at least 2 years experience in a relevant discipline or MSc with equivalent experience
* Track record of delivering state-of-the-art bioanalysis data to projects in discovery and/or
* development setting
* Experienced in development and application of quantitative bioanalytical methods for oligonucleotides and peptides, experience from other drug modalities is a plus
* Good knowledge of liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry ionization and detection (LC-MS/MS) and bioanalytical work in Drug Discovery & Development
* Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
* The team leader role requires experience of performance management in line or matrix teams

Desirable for the role

* Expertise in analysis equipment and automated processing
* Experience with in vitro incubations
* Understanding of DMPK and the overall drug discovery and development process
