Uppsala Monitoring Centre (UMC) is a centre for international service and scientific research in the field of pharmacovigilance. The WHO Programme for International Drug Monitoring (PIDM), which is a worldwide collaboration of more than 150 countries was established in 1968 as a response to the thalidomide catastrophe. It was established with the scope of ensuring the collection of evidence about patient harm from as many sources as possible. UMC has been responsible for the technical and operational aspects of the programme since 1978.
The WHO CC department of UMC is now recruiting two Team Managers to lead the Signal Management and Education & Training teams. The Signal Management team is responsible for the detection, clinical assessment, and communication of safety signals. The Training team is responsible for the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of training and courses that UMC offers to stakeholders such as the members of WHO PIDM. You will be a part of the WHO CC management team and report to the Head of WHO CC Department.
Your role
The Team Manager oversees the daily operational processes to ensure timely and high-quality deliveries. The role should ensure WHO CC goals and objectives by supporting, coaching, and mentoring team staff. It also includes interfacing with other line managers within UMC (such as the Research department or UMC Operations) as well as external collaborators (such as WHO and external clinical experts).
Your general responsibilities will be to:
Create and maintain well-functioning teams in accordance with UMC values and strategies
Be responsible for leading and developing your personnel in line with UMC policies
Lead and develop the operations of the team to achieve the objectives and goals designated to the area
Coordinate and prioritise work according to WHO and PIDM member needs and with the best interest of UMC in mind
Produce and implement annual work plans for the team, based on UMC goals and driven by identified user and stakeholder needs
Ensure that budget targets, goals, and deadlines are met for the team
Continually develop work processes, in collaboration with staff
Contribute to the strategic direction of WHO CC and UMC

What you will need to succeed
You have a university/college bachelor’s or master’s degree in life sciences, medicine, pharmacy, engineering, or similar. To be successful as a Team Manager, you have at least a couple of years’ experience as a project manager, product owner, or equivalent. It is valuable if you have managerial experience and if you understand leadership in a period of change. You translate from strategic planning to operational management with ease. You are self-driven and result-oriented with excellent communication skills, both internally and externally, with a clear focus on quality and client satisfaction. For the training manager position, it will be beneficial if you have knowledge and experience in developing training. You are fluent in written and spoken English.
