Technical Director, Forming

Technical Director will have a overall product development responsibility in forming technology and will have project responsibility in identifying required action in quality issues, direct product engineering and manufacturing on corrective actions. Technical Director will be expected to identify needed product improvement through communication with application group and lead such projects.

As a Project Leader the Technical Director will be responsible for the planning and implementation of new product- or process development projects.

Key responsibilities

In the role as Technical Director Forming you are considered a technical expert in PMC forming and are acting as an consultant within the Albany organization. You should generate reports in technical- and business matters and you will have some budgeting responsibility with lab in Chungju, Korea plant..

Furter you prepare written project objectives including material specifications, equipment needs/modifications and process parameters and you also plan, conducts, schedules and coordinates large projects as Project Manager.

In the the role you oversee the startup of customer equipment, methods or modifications. You have a good knowledge an d connections in the PMC marketplace and in forming manufactoring weaving, heatsetting and seaming technology. You also have a good understanding in forming yarns and influences on finished product and fiels results and are used to monitor competition and intellectual properties.

The Technical Director is resposible to develop and leverage resources both inside and outside the company and generate ideas for research of new products. The role support the transfer all the way from R&D trials to production as well as drive and document new technology trials in the field. Supervises laboratory tests, manufactoring of prototypes and/or pilot trials as well as directs activities of engineers, technologists and/or technicians.

Delivers written progress reports and/or oral technical presentations internally to leaders and managers at Albany and are involved in strategy and planning activities. The Technical Manager should also maintain a good relationship with forming material suppliers.

Requirements

• MS of science preferred, BS of science or engineering required or experience in lieu of degree
• 5+ years of experience with high level technical exposure, project leadership and customer interaction
• Applied Statistics and Design-of-Experiments Methodology
• Ability to work independently or as part of a group
• Ability to manage projects
• Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and Outlook
• Problem solving skills
• Ability to work with application engineers
• Ability to and experience in working directly with customers


The ability to plan and conduct independent research and to stimulate and support the work of staff professionals is required. Understand application of PMC forming products and the ability to further develop to meet specific needs within various paper grades. Strong technical, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills are essential. Positon would include travel to plants in Europe and Asia.

The Technical Director will have a demonstrated aptitude for leadership and the ability to work independently as a leader or member of a larger international R&D team.
