We are looking for a Technical Expert within Driver Behavior with a genuine interest in traffic and vehicle safety to join our Safety Centre at Volvo Cars Headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden.

What you’ll do
In this role, your focus as a Technical Expert within Driver Behavior will be on Risk Management Principles. The aim is to, in collaboration with colleagues, be able to deliver state-of-the art principles for how to best design systems and nudge and /or incentivize driver to achieve the highest possible levels of system usage and compliance – all with the ultimate goal of securing Volvo Cars’ Safety Vision.
The general role of a Technical Expert at Volvo Cars at is to deliver scientific and strategic input within your area of expertise, as well as addressing key issues and providing insights into customer needs and perform benchmarks relevant to the area. In addition, you are also expected to increase the organizational competence through coaching and teaching within the area of specialty.
As a Technical Expert within Risk Management Principles, you will provide leadership and guidance on how to investigate driver nudging and incentivizing mechanisms, based on lab/test track experiments and fleet insight type analysis. You will also have a large responsibility for how to translate the investigation results into Risk Management Principles that are easy to understand and apply for the teams developing Collision Avoidance and Driver Support systems. As part of this work, you are also expected to develop and maintain a knowledge creation plan on how to further develop Volvo Cars’ understanding of useful risk management principles, in a way that supports our ambitions of being leading in Safety.
In addition, you will regularly perform reviews and demos of methodology and insight advances in the area. You will also be expected to contribute to external and internal exposure of Volvo Cars’ deep knowledge and safety engagement within your area of expertise (e.g., through expert groups, scientific articles and public outreach) and act as a mentor to help others to grow their knowledge in the area.
You and your skills
We believe you have a master’s level degree or higher within a relevant area, as well as knowledge and experience of risk management principles, including various approaches to nudging and incentivization as means to achieve high usage rates and compliance with system instructions within automotive industry. You will also need deep knowledge on how drivers respond to consciously and unconsciously perceived stimuli, such as nudging displays and/or incentives, as well as experience of statistical analysis and advanced safety technology development in an industrial organization. In addition, you need recognized leadership experience and fluent English skills, both written and spoken.
On a personal level, you first and foremost share our genuine interest in traffic and vehicle safety. You have great analytic skills and a talent for creating synthesis-based insights. Also, you have the pedagogical abilities and engagement needed to present and explain these insights to an audience who might not know your area very well, and doing it in such a way that they can easily apply what you have learned within their areas of expertise.
You have a collaborative mindset and believe that teamwork is a stronger driver of results than solo acts. You are research focused and motivated, but can still keep a customer focus, in the sense that research at Volvo Cars in the end is intended to create safer and better products and therefore has to support product development in the way it is performed.
