We are looking for a Technical Expert within Human Body Modelling with a genuine interest in vehicle and traffic safety to join our Safety Centre at Volvo Cars Headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The future challenges and opportunities are exciting and through advanced technology and research we are developing safety with regard to injury prevention and collision avoidance, in addition to areas like Autonomous Drive, HMI, emotional safety and driver behavior. The Injury Prevention Analysis section 91460 at Volvo Cars Safety Centre is responsible for establishing safety guidelines and requirements for our future cars and for evaluating safety performance for both occupants and vulnerable road users.
What you’ll do
In this role, your focus as a Technical Expert will be on Human Body Modelling (HBM). The general role of a Technical Expert at Volvo Cars is to deliver scientific and strategic input within your area of expertise, as well as addressing key issues and providing insights into customer needs and perform benchmarks relevant to the area. In addition, you are also expected to increase the organizational competence through coaching and teaching within your area of specialty.
Specifically, as Technical Expert within Human Body Modelling, your focus is to lead Volvo Cars’ development of tools and methods for human body models within the area of biomechanics of impact trauma, applied in protection of occupants and vulnerable road users interacting with the car. The main responsibilities of the role are to:
• Drive development of HBMs capable for whole crash sequences, applicable for vehicle safety developments
• Investigate and apply state-of-the-art input data and techniques
• Proactively influence the international research community to work in-line with Volvo Cars’ focus on real-world safety
• Perform simulations and advanced model development
• Contribute to external and internal exposure of Volvo Cars’ state-of-the-art safety tool development (e.g., through expert groups, scientific articles, and public outreach)
• Act as a reference person in the area of HBMs and spread knowledge by teaching, mentoring and coaching
You and your skills
We believe you have a PhD degree within a relevant area, as well as deep knowledge and experience of crashworthiness assessment within automotive safety and biomechanics, minimum ten years of relevant experience. You will also need experience of advanced safety technology development and skills in programming and statistical analysis. Furthermore, you need to have recognized leadership in human body modelling, and it is meritorious to have experience of leading and developing individuals and teams.
On a personal level, you first and foremost share our genuine interest in traffic and vehicle safety. You have great analytic skills and a talent for creating synthesis-based insights with a holistic view. Also, you are a good communicator with the pedagogical abilities and engagement needed to present and explain these insights to an audience who might not know your area very well, in a way that allows them to apply your findings within their areas of expertise.
You have a collaborative mindset and believe that teamwork is a stronger driver of results than solo acts, therefore you continuously contribute to the objectives of your agile team. You always keep a customer focus, a positive attitude, and a high motivation. You are research focused and motivated. You have an inner drive and are truly innovative. Furthermore, you are well organized but still flexible.
