Technical Expert for Integrated Safety CAE

The Safety Analysis section is a part of Volvo Cars Safety Centre (VCSC) which drives the development of the Volvo core value Safety to build the world's safest cars. We cover the areas of both passive and active safety and have state-of-the-art facilities and equipment e.g. the unique crash test laboratory. Within VCSC there are functions for both strategic safety and requirement development, traffic accident research and safety analysis within both testing and CAE. Development work is performed in close collaboration with our internal design departments and external suppliers in a dynamic and international environment. The section Safety Analysis consist of three different analysis groups each with their own CAE and test Analysis engineers, Side Impact & Pedestrian, Rear Impact & Customer Testing and Frontal Impact.
The Technical Expert for Integrated Safety CAE shall be a member of the Safety Analysis leadership team, reporting to the Crash Analysis Director. This leadership team has the responsibility for crash analysis & verification test & CAE teams, ensuring that our analysis work is executed in all projects, both vehicle, operational, method and advanced engineering development on time with world class quality. We aim to achieve this through continuous improvement and competence development to ensure top level engagement from our employees. We contribute enthusiastically to the development of the world's safest cars.
Main responsibilities
* Keep up with latest literature, trends, and research conducted within the area integrated safety
* Create, maintain and lead close relationships with Universities, Research Institutions and suppliers that are prominent in this area
* Create, maintain and lead internal Volvo cars networks within Integrated Safety stakeholders
* Work operatively using CAE and test methods to lead analysis work and ensure project deliverables
* Mentor and teach other Volvo cars colleagues within the area of integrated safety
* Lead systems requirement development, specifically within HBM including tools and criteria
* AE project management and actively participate in the strategy process
* Lead national and international research projects
* Ensure that integrated safety development contributes significantly to Volvo cars business
Required qualifications
* Ph.D or Master's Degree
* 10 years of experience in the functional area
* Experience in all program phases from Pre-Program to launch incl. one major program or system equivalent
* Shown major contribution or lead in development of advanced technologies/ processes and transfer of technology
* Experience of external research, advanced engineering performed at academy, research institute or industry
* Experience as a representative in research boards and complex legal matters
* Comprehensive experience from and network within Authorities, Academy and Industry
* Recognized and shown technical expertise in the given area, including both narrow and broad focus
* Knowledge of applicable methods and interfacing subsystems, put into a Volvo cars context
* Demonstrated capability to handle competences covering several specialist areas
* Demonstrated competence which is unique on a national level
* Performed theoretical & practical work which significantly has improved the product in a way which would not have been possible without leading edge competence
* In-depth experience of the Volvo cars development process is meritorious
* Experience of Volvo cars CAE & crash analysis software tools, LS-Dyna, ANSA & MetaPost is an advantage
* Experience of both active & passive crash testing is meritorious
