Within Volvo Cars the Solution Vehicle Tophat has the competence to deliver optimized, high quality and affordable design solutions as part of an attractive personalized consumer offer. We develop sustainable and safe Tophats to provide freedom in a changing society.
The Solution Vehicle Tophat is responsible for development of the complete Tophat content distributed in the ARTs Interior Room, Seats and Safety, Exterior Front and Rear, Exterior systems and Interior Trim and Systems. There are also shared service teams with focus on Quality and Launch, Interior Surface Materials and the two attribute areas Product Ergonomics and Perceived Quality.

We are now planning to replace one of our senior Technical specialists who will retire by assigning a new Technical Expert to contribute to our Polymer/Thermo plastic material strategy.
You will have a crucial role when it comes having the expertise and provide strategic direction with focus on polymer/thermoplastic material from a design engineering, process and tooling perspective.
Based on your expertise you will be a part of Volvo cars Climate action and Circular economy ambitions.
What you will do
Within the area polymer/thermoplastic material focusing on design engineering, process and tooling perspective you will act as a go to person for advice and you will be a carrier of competence. You will have a large network and will support internal and external organizations and peers. You will be the base for building this competence in our organization.
The area where you mainly will work in is:
- Process and tooling technology
- Future technology development
- Scouting new materials, Process optimization
Contribute to the technical strategy within this area.
Support, guide and coach our teams during the development, documentation and quality
assurance in quality improvements, benchmark activities, warranty regress activities and
advanced engineering project.
Develop way of working
Collaboration with academia and external partners.
You will develop the organization knowledge by teaching, mentoring and coaching
Support and supervise advanced engineering and research projects.
Within the specialist area support, review and advise the Volvo organization cross functionally on to requirements, specifications, verification & validation methods, tools and equipment.
What you bring
* Demonstrated capability and willingness to teach/ coach/ mentor and document technical knowledge, e.g. conference papers, education material.
* Demonstrated high level of communication skills and teamwork, e.g. invited as speaker, media.
* Has given lectures at suppliers, academy etc.
* Has demonstrated communication skills during negotiations with suppliers, authorities etc
* Demonstrated initiative & capability to provide leadership/support to peers & management, within the technical area, to assure the delivery of transfer of technology and/ or programs.
* Ability to lead a team in the delivery of technical objectives
Experience and educational background
BSc, or equivalent based on work experience.
Preferred: MSc or higher
Demonstrated technical expertise and knowledge of the polymer/thermoplastic material area with focus on design engineering and process. Tooling experience and competence is a merit.
Experience from automotive industry.
Demonstrated personal contribution in development of advanced technologies/ processes and transfer of technology. Experience from all program phases and Volvo cars experience is a merit.
Normally at least 10 years experience in the area
You are collaborative, have leadership skills and are strong on coaching, guiding and supporting the team members to grow.
You have a strategic mindset.
You are a good listener and understand in what way you can have the best impact on a good result. Communication is one of your strengths and you are good at building and keeping networks.
