The Science Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Technical In-kind Liaison Engineer/Officer for the Neutron Scattering Systems (NSS) Project position.

Description of directorate/division/group

The Science Directorate comprises a total of five divisions which, during the construction period of ESS, will support activities related to the design and actual construction of neutron scattering instruments but also activities related to providing supporting infrastructure such as laboratories, while developing an active scientific programme to support not only the neutron scattering instruments but also the future users which will be using such instruments. All activities within the Sceince Directorate rely to great extend on extensive collaborations amongst not only the European but world-wide neutron scattering user community, which results in a very dynamic and interesting work environment that will deliver a multi-disciplinary research centre based on the worlds most powerful neutron source.  

Description of main responsibilities

The successful candidates main responsibilities will be:



• Support NSS in the identification and evaluation of In-kind Contribution (IKC) partners especially in the smaller countries

• Interact and work closely with Industrial Liaison Offiers (ILO) within the partner countries

• Evaluate Expressions Of Interest (EOI) responses based on technical merits and partner capabilities

• Understand In-kind funding streams in all partner countries

• Represent NSS on-site, provide support to partner, first hand and continuous monitoring and follow-up for ESS in the various stages of collaboration

• Support work package leaders within NSS in defining in-kind work package deliverables

• Participation in kick-off meetings, Conceptual Design Reports (CDR)

The position will report to the NSS Project leader and will work very closely with the work package and work unit leaders within NSS. The role also requires cooperation with the Industrial Liaison Office (ILO) network to maximise expertise and capacity available in the ESS partner countries.  

Qualifications



• Physics or Engineering degree (master degree or above)

• Project manangement experience

• Experience in in-kind management and/or procurement and/or Quality Management would be an advantage

• Knowledge of neutron scattering instrumentation would be advantageous

• Experience of working in an international environment is essential

• Excellent oral and written English skills are a prerequisite; knowledge of other European languages would be an advantage

The position is permanent with six months initial probationary period. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden. The position requires traveling.
