We are looking for a Technical Leader CAE for durable, safe, and sustainable materials to join our Safety Centre at Volvo Cars Headquarters in Gothenburg.

Safety Centre (VCSC) supports our strategic direction of “Freedom to move in a Personal, Sustainable & Safe way”. Future product development includes challenges in sustainability, crash, strength, and endurance whilst keeping high efficiency in analysis and verification. This role secures Volvo Cars’ expertise in the latest research of renewable, recyclable, lightweight and degradable materials suitable for mass-scale production addressing these challenges. It also drives knowledge creation on how to virtually analyze and introduce these new materials improving strength, endurance, ageing, sustainability, and safety.
What you’ll do
As Technical Leader CAE for durable, safe, and sustainable materials, you will lead development of prerequisites for efficient analysis and verification to enable introduction of sustainable material in our products, supporting Sustainability and Safety. With a base in our durability team at the Safety Centre, the role works across Research & Development, Manufacturing Engineering and Quality. This to enable new materials and support further enhancement of existing solutions to meet the strategic ambitions for Volvo Cars.
This role provides scientific input and strategic direction to future products. It addresses, and resolves key technical issues as well as global surveillance, including customer needs and benchmark, within area of expertise, specifically:
* Create methods and processes to implement new materials in strength, endurance, and crash worthiness assessment.
* Spread knowledge of how to analyze new sustainable materials to enable use of materials that supports our design and helps improve strength, endurance, crash worthiness and sustainability.
* Transfer knowledge and expertise to Volvo Cars to build up CAE capability to enable introduction of new materials to be used in vehicle programs.
* Drive implementation of efficient modelling and computing techniques into the CAE-process
* Collaborate and support teams in complex technical issues and act as go to person.
* Drive and support retrospect and correlation studies and define suitable analysis capability
* Build an extensive global network to be able to define and drive strategic knowledge building for the organization, utilizing state of the art competence centers, i.e., academia or institutes, including benchmark within area of expertise.
* Teach, mentor and coach teams and individuals cross the organization.
You and your skills
We see that you have a PhD equivalent or higher within a relevant area, as well as outstanding research skills and demonstrated expertise in material science. You will also need comprehensive experience from research and industry within CAE-analysis, verification and validation methods and strategies, concept development, requirements and methods. Furthermore, you will need experience in car development and manufacturing processes and skills in material modelling for CAE together with knowledge of strength, endurance and crashworthiness.
You have great analytic skills and a talent for creating synthesis-based insights. Also, you are a good communicator with the pedagogical abilities and engagement needed to present and explain these insights to an audience who might not know your area very well. Doing it in such a way that they can easily apply what you have learned within their areas of expertise.
You have a collaborative mindset and believe that teamwork is a stronger driver of results than solo acts. You are research focused and motivated, but can keep a customer focus, in the sense that research at Volvo Cars in the end is intended to create safer and better products and therefore has to support product development in the way it is performed.
