Technical Sound Designer

Technical Sound Designer

Arbetsbeskrivning

Avalanche Studios is seeking a Technical Sound Designer (TSD) with heart, to join the audio team on our latest AAA project, Contraband. Challenges include working with proprietary tools including the Apex game engine and our own modular audio framework, and integrating those tools with the Wwise audio engine.

By joining our team of audio developers, you’ll be taking on the responsibility of creating and supporting our game’s audio systems and pipelines, as well as developing in-game content. Our ideal team member will have a healthy balance of creative and technical problem solving abilities, as both will be needed for the role. Half of a game’s audio quality is determined by implementation, and as the Technical Sound Designer you’ll be responsible for expanding and maintaining the framework that makes that implementation possible.

We rely upon our Technical Sound Designers to:

- Work with our audio team to optimize, expand, and refine current audio pipelines across the game.

- Implement in-game audio, and script systems alongside sound designers.

- Provide technical guidance for sound designers and programmers, and share learning and knowledge with audio teams of other projects.

- Help set and maintain audio performance standards on console platforms.

- Serve as the bridge between sound designers’ requests and how programmers fulfill them.

- Edit and implement music assets in middleware

- Partner with team members across disciplines to find solutions that best support quality audio.

- Playtest regularly and help identify opportunities to improve audio quality.

- Embrace the challenge of problem solving with proprietary tools and applications that lack the polish (and limitations) that come with off-the-shelf solutions

Skills and experience we’re interested in:

- Experience as a technical sound designer, or similar working experience

- Wwise fluency

- DAW proficiency (Reaper is the team DAW of choice but non-Reaper folks are welcome!)

- Experience with scripting in any of the following: Python, Javascript, etc.

- Experience with visual scripting languages such as Blueprints, Max/MSP, etc

- Ability to give and accept feedback

- Communicating with people across large development teams

- Musical knowledge and a vision for interactive music is a plus!

- Experience with C, C#, C++, a….plus!

Our Interview Process:
- If your qualifications are a good match, we’ll initiate a call with you and a recruitment representative to align and review your CV together.

- Next, an interview with a selection of our Project and Sound Leads to present the role and responsibilities, and ask questions about your past work and projects.

- A short written test showcasing your technical writing and problem solving skills, with real world problems we’d present a technical sound designer.

- Finally, a feedback meeting with a selection of our Sound Department to discuss your test, the immediate project work, and your long term goals

How to Apply

We will only consider applications that include a CV, brief cover letter, and demonstrations of your previous work to review.
