Technical writers plan, create, and maintain educational content as an integral part of the engineering or user experience. The content is often in the form of documentation, but may also be UI text, sample code, videos, or other educational material. Regardless of the content medium, technical writers are distinguished by their abilities to explain complex topics in a way that’s useful to their audience.
Firebase is a platform for developing, growing, and generating business for apps, designed to help developers build better apps and grow successful businesses. In this role, you will be involved in organizing and writing a broad range of developer-oriented material including API references, tutorials, and use cases.
As a Technical Writer, you will create excellent developer experiences that drive engagement, adoption, and success for developers building on Firebase. You will focus on creating product documentation, helping developers troubleshoot issues, resolve roadblocks, and ensure developer satisfaction.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with several Firebase feature teams, and develop processes for maintaining awareness of new developments.
- Write technical documentation for our external developer audience, such as API reference docs and developer guides.
- Design and organize documentation sets for new APIs and developer products.
- Edit, clarify, and proofread documents written by others, and coach non-writers on ways to improve their writing skills.
- Contribute to development of other developer materials such as videos, codelabs, and blog posts.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience in technical writing, product documentation, or online publishing.
- Experience with source code written in C++, Python, and/or JavaScript.
- Experience working in collaboration with software engineers.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience writing developer-facing documentation or technical customer-facing materials.
- Experience writing in HTML or markdown.
- Experience documenting, developing, or using APIs in REST, Java, Swift, objective-C, C++.
- Experience with mobile or cloud developer products.
- Experience with common developer tools such as Android Studio, Xcode, npm, git, code hosting platform, etc.
