Linnaeus University is the result of a merger between Kalmar University and Växjö University. The research activities within the Department of Biology and Environmental Science include the areas of aquatic ecology, cell and organism biology, evolutionary biology, microbiology, environmental science and environmental engineering as well as zoonotic ecology. The position will involve assisting in several projects within the group including treatment of wastewaters, extraction of metals from minerals, and investigation of microbial communities in Baltic Sea sediments.
The work will involve reactor studies, extraction of nucleic acids, and other general duties in both the laboratory and field.

Qualification requirements for the position are a minimum of an undergraduate degree in molecular biology, microbiology, ecology, biotechnology or similar subject.

Other assessment grounds that would place the candidate at an advantage include documented evidence of working within a microbiology laboratory as well as experience with bioreactors, DNA extractions, and field work. In addition, the applicant should be proficient in written and spoken English and have the ability to work independently as well as interact well in a research group. Finally, having a category B driver’s license would be beneficial.

Terms of employment: The position will be 100 % for 3 months. The starting date is as soon as the position can be filled. The position is located in Kalmar, Sweden.
