Core mission
As a member of the "Test Hall" group of the Mechanical Service of the Experimental Halls (SMAE), which is part of the ILL's Projects and Techniques Division, you will join the team responsible for mechanical assembly and maintenance operations on the ILL's scientific instruments and neutron guides.
Your tasks
. Assembly and alignment of the ILL's neutron guides
. Mechanical assembly, adjustment and maintenance of precision mechanical equipment, rotating machines and other mechanical equipment
. Machining/turning operations using machine tools to make necessary minor alterations and adjustments to parts.
In addition, you may be required to produce and test prototypes and check mechanical parts.
Your profile
. Level 4 qualification (NVQ, BTEC HND or equivalent) in mechanical engineering or maintenance.
. Experience of using three-dimensional measuring machines such as CMMs or measuring arms or knowledge of optical alignment techniques (use of theodolite) or alignment techniques based on 3D measurements (laser tracker + 3D measurement software) is desirable, together with a definite ambition to master these techniques.
. Skills in machining (turning + milling), mechanical assembly and the dimensional inspection of mechanical parts would be an advantage.
. Fluency in French is required; some knowledge of English is desirable
. Ability to manage a mechanical assembly project with the help of other technicians
. Ability to work independently and methodically, an open attitude to giving feedback, and strong communication and teamwork skills.
