Who we are?
The section Business Development and Digital is part of the Manufacturing Engineering body and Geo department. This department is responsible to develop the process and implement vehicle programs and engineering changes into the global production sites within the area of body construction. The Section BD&D is responsible to standardize and specify the production equipment for all VCC production sites, including Digital tools and the working procedures.
The position is Manager of the “Global” Technology development Group.
What is in it for you?
The Group, distributed between Gent, Olofström and Gothenburg, is built out of SME (Subject Matter Experts) from Body and Geo organization and Deploy SMS (Subject Matter Structure) areas for VCM such as PLC Hard and software, robot function packages, IT infrastructure and interfacing, resistance welding, Laser Processing, Sealing and Adhesive bonding, Mechanical solutions, etc.
These SMEs have a unique and highly specialized competence developed in a specific professional area. They own and secure strategy and standardized way of working (equipment, procedures, process) by identifying and driving actively to best practices, relying on a strong network in Volvo Cars and on necessary contacts in other units and other Business Partner Companies.
The SME’s support car projects globally with SMS deliveries: Standards, Specifications, Process books, Working methods, Checklists, Checkpoints, Libraries, Templates and Education. They are available for effective support on site during critical phases of car projects.
What will you do?
You will work closely with the ME-Body management team, reporting to the section manager of Business development and Digital. As manager of the SME team, you will ensure proper cooperation between the different SMEs. You will cooperate with the other ME Tech/Tooling managers in order to secure commonality and efficiency in our production systems.
Your responsibility is also to align activities with the Cycle plan and annual plan and interface with all VCC plants, Europe, China and US. Having this position, you are owner of the Buy-off book, all chapters, SMEs dependent and others. Also, you will monitor SME work of all other SMEs in the VCM ME organization and ensure execution of the tasks, deliveries and responsibilities of the group as listed above. You will actively work with external companies or institutes to develop Volvo’s future manufacturing systems and related equipment.
This function requires frequent travel between the different VCC units over Europe (Gotheburg, Gent, and Olofström), China (Chengdu, Daqing, Luquiao, Shanghai) and United States (Charleston).
You and your skills
We believe you have Master of Science degree in relevant area and experience of automation and/or engineering work. Minimum 3 years of leadership experience is needed. Experience from automation or automotive industry is preferred.
It is an advantage if you have knowledge about body processes and project management competence.
On a personal level, we believe you have strong leadership skills and customer focus. Important is also excellence in execution, engaged and encouraging approach towards people in the team, ability to drive change and implementation, as well as being able to develop people.We value high integrity, being relations oriented, and good communication skills.
Ability to create good long-term relationships with employees and other stakeholders, including external relations is also very important.
