The Science Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Thin Films Coating Technician in the Detector Group within the Neutron Technologies Division.
Description of directorate/division
The Neutron Technologies Division provides the technological tools required for the design, construction and operation of the neutron instruments at the ESS. The development of cutting edge instruments requires a significant development effort in supporting neutron technologies in order that our instruments reach their full potential. Although significant progress has been made over the years in neutron optics, detectors, choppers, sample environments and electronics hardware it is important for ESS to continue in innovating and find solution for its special needs provided by our unique time pulsed time structure and high neutron flux environment.
Description of main responsibilities
This is a thin-film deposition laboratory for depositing thin converter layers for the novel neutron detectors needed for ESS. As such, the primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to;
• Implements activities within the laboratory, including organisation and preparation of documents for delivery, stock and storage of both finished goods and goods received.
• Support setting-up the facility, commissioning the equipment, setting up procedures, quality control, day-to-day running of the lab and production of thin films for both prototyping and construction of detectors.
Qualifications
Significant technical expertise will be vital for this position.
• Bachelors in Mechanic Engineering, Applied Physics, Material Science or similar
• Several years of experience in the coating industry.
• It would be an advantage to have led a small team of people
• Experience in the private sector.
• Advanced level of computer user skills and preferably familiarised with management software such as ERP, electronic log books, etc
• Good bookkeeping skills related to in-house logistics and storage.
You should be fluent in both English and Swedish or Danish.

Duration & Location
The position is permanent with six months initial probationary period. Your work place will be situated in Linköping, Sweden
