Reference number 313-401-10 Three doctorate positions leading to a PhD in Fine Art The Academy of Fine Arts in Umeå starts a PhD education in Fine Arts in the autumn of 2010.An artistic platform including Umeå Academy of Fine Arts, Umeå School of Architecture, Umeå Institute of Design, Bildmuseet and HUMlab-X is being built.The new Umeå Arts Campus will be ready early 2012.The PhD students will be part of The National Artistic Research School.To qualify for the PhD education, candidates must have a Master of Fine Arts or have completed course requirements of at least 240 credits in Fine Arts, including at least 60 credits at Master level, or acquired the corresponding knowledge, and be artistically active and have done independent artistic work of a high quality.A candidate who had an academic degree of 120 academic credit points (corresponding to 180 HE credits) before July 1, 2007 and who fulfils the specific entry requirements of the PhD education is also considered eligible for admission.A good knowledge of English is required.Holders of PhD student positions will devote their time primarily to their own artistic research projects.The initial appointment is for a maximum of one year.After that the position may be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time.Employment as a PhD student is granted for a stipulated period of time corresponding to full-time doctoral studies for four years.To a limited extent, a PhD student can teach or do administrative work corresponding to a maximum of twenty percent of full-time work.The period of employment may consequently be prolonged to a maximum of five years.General study plan.The provisions relating to the PhD education are stated in the Higher Education Ordinance, Chapters 6-7 and the provisions relating to employment as PhD student in the Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 5.The System of Qualifications for PhD programmes in fine-, applied- and performing arts is stated in Appendix 2 of the Higher Education Ordinance.The application written in English must contain: 1. documents proving the fulfilment of general and specific entry requirements; 2. curriculum vitae; 3. research plan for an artistic research project, 5-10 pages; 4. names and contact information of two references.In accordance with the instructions of the National Archives, the application documents will be sorted out, or if so requested by the applicant, returned two years after the decision on employment gained legal force.The procedure for recruitment for the position is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance (chapt.12, 2 ) and the decision regarding the position cannot be appealed.Documents sent electronically should be in MS Word or PDF format.We look forward to receiving your application!
