Three PhD Research Fellowship positions and one Post Doc position* - within the research project "Integrated Marine Electrical Power Control Systems" - IME 043-2009 and IME-044-2009.At the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim, Faculty of Information technology, mathematics and electrical engineering, there are vacant PhD research fellows and post doc.positions within "Integrated Marine and Subsea Electrical Power and Control Systems" Future energy efficient all electric marine power and propulsion systems will require innovative energy converters with high power capacity, rugged design and high efficiency.Introduction on new power sources like fuel cells and local energy storage will result in new power distribution grid architecture including DC sub systems.Stability analysis and proper integration with the overall control system is important for such weak power system Power electronic converters will be key components for the required integration of electrical power and control within these complex hybrid systems.For a Client we are looking for Three PhD Research Fellowship and one Post Doc Position in Trondheim, Norway.*Description of the research topics*: *Topic 1.ADVANCED CONTROL OF POWER CONVERTER (PhD and Post.doc)* Mathematical modelling and design of control system for power electronic converter connected in marine or subsea power system.Different converter topologies, optimal modulation and control algorithms for integration with the overall control system will be investigated.Power electronic converters will have to be adapted to fit the harsh conditions.For subsea applications both ruggedness and low losses are of vital importance, making design for high reliability and high efficiency two important challenges.Laboratory equipment and prototype for experimental verification must be developed as part of the research project.The candidates must have qualification in Electrical Power Systems, Power Electronics, Digital Signal Processing and Control Theory.MODELING AND SIMULATION OF INTEGRATED MARINE POWER AND CONTROL SYSTEMS (PhD).* Development of advanced mathematical models and simulations to verify the performance and the design of complex marine power systems with electric propulsion.The power system contains fuel cells in combination with diesel/gas driven power generators.Qualifications in Electrical- Control- or Marine Engineering or similar.INTEGRATION OF CONTROL AND POWER SYSTEM FOR A SMALL MARINE VESSEL WITH HYBRID ELECTRIC PROPULSION (PhD)* Power/energy management and control in a hybrid power system for a small marine vessel (sailing boat) with electric propulsion.The vessel has diesel generator and a fuel cell with local energy storage as the power sources.Simulation models for operation and the design of the system has to be developed.An experimental plant must be built.The candidate must have qualification in Electrical Power Systems, Power Electronics and Control Theory.
