At Coromant's R&D department in Västberga, Stockholm, we are about 150 employees representing more than 20 nationalities. We are now looking for three R&D Engineers to join our teams working with grade development for solid tools and rotating indexable tools in order to ensure that we maintain Sandvik Coromant's world leading position in our field.
The section for Solid Round Tool Grades is comprised of seven people and has as its goal to develop new cutting materials for solid tools; i.e., for drills, end mills and taps.
The section for Rotating Indexable Tools is comprised of eight people and is responsible for developing new cutting material for indexable milling and drilling tools.
Both sections are involved in product development projects, as well as in strategic projects building knowledge for coming products. We verify the performance of cutting tool prototypes, both at our lab facilities and at our customers.
Key performance areas
As an R&D Engineer within these sections, you will develop knowledge for future products. You will work in close collaboration with our testing facility and act as the coordinator between testing and project managers. Your responsibilities also include:
- Identifying tool performance problems from a materials perspective, to suggest new technical solutions
- Regularly meeting customers, to understand the customer needs
- Testing of tools in our state-of-the-art workshop
- Close cooperation with technicians in studying and evaluating wear types and wear mechanisms
The position involves about 20 traveling days a year, as other units in the organization we cooperate and work with are located at various sites in Sweden and Europe.
Your profile
We are looking for candidates with relevant education, preferably a PhD or Master's in Engineering from the fields of materials science, mechanical engineering, physics or chemistry. You may have several years of professional experience with cutting processes; e.g., in production, within product development of cutting tools, or in a materials laboratory environment, but might also have graduated more recently.
As a person, you are outgoing and have a structured and analytical working style. It is important that you are a true problem solver, with the familiarity with materials necessary to understand the materials you will be working with. The position includes networking with the Coromant organization in Sandviken, Gimo, Halmstad, Rovereto and Sheffield, therefore you need to be communicative and a network builder, with strong customer focus. Finally, we want to emphasize the need for a passion for innovation and new technological discoveries.
