Role Summary/Purpose:

Trainee - Field Application Specialist Chromatography (BioProcess large-scale column packing) is part of Application team which supports Sales Europe in selling products in the field of industrial process development and manufacturing, like AxiChrom, Chromaflow and BPG columns. Coached by a senior expert the trainee should learn and deliver following responsibilities. This position requires at least 50% of travel time, mainly in Europe.

Essential Responsibilities:

Actively support the sales process by advising in sales discussions, giving presentations and hands-on column packing demonstrations for all types of BioProcess columns and resins
Perform advanced, customized post-installation hands-on training, seminars and consulting for customers (for pay), learn to give quotation info to sales people
Provide expert technical post-sale support for users, e.g. troubleshooting, including extended on-site process-connected problem solving, be kind of column packing and performance troubleshooting Hotline
Deliver high level hands-on application support to chromatography customers and support with packing method development, optimization, verification and scale-up/process transfer to GE Healthcare's column portfolio, perform installation/operational qualification, IQ/OQ, for Process columns and packing stations
Participate in and support global Fast Trak initiatives in education, consulting and technical support
Deliver input to Business Area (Marketing and R&D) and Management for all questions related to Column hardware, packing, performance, and quality with particular focus on issues, customer comments, market info and competitor practices
Develop and present ideas for improvements and new solutions - technical developments and demands, market and regulatory requirements, new processes and unit operations
Provide industrially-focused column and column packing and application training of our portfolio for GE personnel, as requested
Prepare, execute and wrap up Standard and Custom Fast Trak courses, lecturing and hands-on lab work/teaching required including cleaning in place, CIP, techniques and in depth industrial column packing knowledge
Contribute to updating and development of new courses, practical exercises and course materials,

Qualifications/Requirements:

Degree in pharma/biosciences/biotechnology/engineering or comparable technical highschool grade with experience in Chromatography
Theoretical, optimally practical experience in pharma, biopharma or biotech with focus on chromatography and column packing
Column packing hands-on experience on a basic level, also for small column diameters
Experience in column packing method development, verification, scale-up and tech transfer
Experience in protein/peptide chemistry and software knowledge
Experience in communicating scientific data (talks, posters, papers)
Familiar with the GE Healthcare Chromatography product range
The following specific skills would be of great value:
hands-on knowledge of UNICORN control software, BioProcess- and ÄKTA- systems, experience in Downstream Processing
Sound knowledge of bio-chromatography

Must be prepared to travel at least 50% of the time, mainly in Europe

Desired Characteristics:

Fluency in English (spoken and written) and ideally another major European language
Good in communication and at presentation skills
Ability to work in a multi-culture working environment
