Two Electricity Market Modelers and Analysts

Two Electricity Market Modelers and Analysts

Arbetsbeskrivning

The electric power system is foreseen to play an increasingly central role in the future energy system with further electrification and transition towards sustainability.

Would you like to contribute to this development by modelling and simulation of electricity markets and trading to analyse the impact of policy, market design and trading strategies?

About us
RISE Electric Power Systems is now looking for two modellers and analysts to increase our capabilities to meet an increasing demand for research and development projects in electricity markets and trading. The electric power system is foreseen to play a vital future role through e.g., the electrification of industry and transport sectors, significantly increasing the demand of electricity and requiring large investments in generation, transmission and distribution, as well as in storage and digitalisation. RISE contributes to this development with analyses and solutions by initiating and conducting research, innovation and development projects in collaboration with companies, utilities, universities and public actors.

About the roles
RISE has increasing activities within electric power systems with an expanding portfolio of research and innovation projects combining technical and economic perspectives. The transition of the energy and electric power system raises new challenges and opportunities, and we are experiencing a growing demand of applied research.

We now have two open positions to strengthen our capability to initiate, lead and perform high quality research in electricity market economics, design and trading.

Modeller

In this role you are expected to contribute to conduct research projects by developing models and performing analyses regarding electricity trading and scheduling. Apart from modelling and analyses tasks, this position can also include supervision and project management. You are expected to participate in designing new projects and to communicate with stakeholders, existing and potential collaboration partners, customers and funding agencies.

Researcher

You are expected to contribute with method development concerning market simulations, as well as conducting simulation and analyses applying new advanced methods. This position has an extra attention to market design aspects, and how to assess the impact of various market design options on incentives and welfare through modelling and simulation. You are also expected to contribute to the development process of new research projects, writing research proposals and to initiate research collaborations with universities and other institutes.

Location for both positions is in Gothenburg or Stockholm.

Who are  you?
The two positions and roles have expected profiles outlined below:

Modeller
You are expected to have at least three years of work experience from modelling of energy systems, energy trading, scheduling or similar. Preferably experience from project related work and management. Experience from model implementation in Python, Matlab, GAMS or similar software is considered an advantage. Suitable educational backgrounds are MSc or higher in electrical engineering, energy systems, economics, financial economics, or applied mathematics. A PhD degree in a relevant field is considered an advantage although not mandatory.

Researcher
Candidates are expected to have several years of research experience in electricity markets. A suitable educational background is a PhD degree (or MSc with a strong research record) in electrical engineering with focus on markets, alternatively in economics with focus on energy or electricity. Previous research experience should include mathematical modelling as well as model implementation in software such as Matlab, Python, GAMS or similar.

Both profiles are proactive, creative, open to new challenges and collaboration oriented. The ability to independently lead processes and projects is considered central to these positions, but especially for the role as researcher. The work will involve contacts with external project partners and customers, and applicants should therefore have strong communicative skills.

Welcome with your application!
If this sounds exciting and you want to know more, please contact the Director of the Electric Power Systems unit Magnus Brolin, 010-516 58 31. The closing date is October 31.

Our union representatives are: Lazaro Tsantaridis, SACO, 010-516 62 21 and Linda Ikatti, Unionen, 010-516 51 61.
