Two PhD positions in remote sensing of clouds and forests

Arbetsbeskrivning

At the division for Geoscience and Remote Sensing at Chalmers University of Technology (Gothenburg, Sweden) we are tackling global environmental problems using remote sensing satellites. We are hiring two PhD students to work across the full lifecycle of these technologies: from understanding the underlying physical mechanisms and pre-launch algorithm development to analysing the first data from the new satellite sensors.

PhD position in sub-millimetre observations of clouds
Join us to explore the first data from two entirely new sets of satellite sensors!
In 2024-25 the first satellite-based instruments for weather and climate operating in the sub-millimetre wavelength region will be launched. You will take part in the final pre-launch preparations and analyse the first data from the satellites. The position allows you to combine interests in climate, physics and data.

PhD position in radar remote sensing of forests
Use some of the world's most advanced radar technology to unveil the secrets of how forest trees interact with the atmosphere. This position is an opportunity to work at the crossroads of engineering, data science and biology using a unique radar facility at a world-leading experimental forest and spaceborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data. Time series analysis will be used to study the inner workings of how water behaves within trees and how we can observe these effects on a global scale using satellites.

The application deadline for the positions above is 15 March 2022.
