Arbetsbeskrivning
Chalmers University is offering two postdoctoral positions in a project related to reduced CO2 emissions in the cement production. The project is highly interdisciplinar and consists of a collaboration between the Departments of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Mechanics and Maritime Sciences and Technology Management and Economics.
Information about the two positions
The first position would be located at the Chemical Engineering division of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering department. The Division of Chemical Engineering includes two units: Chemical Reaction and Process Engineering; Forest Products and Chemical Engineering. We have a wide range of experience and work both experimentally and with modeling. We have a long tradition of working with both fundamental scientific questions and applied problems together with industry. This position is within the unit for Chemical Reaction and Process Engineering.
The second position will be open at the Fluid Dynamic division of Mechanical and Maritime Science department. The research at the Division covers turbulent flow (both compressible and incompressible), multiphase flows, aero-acoustics and turbomachines. Our tools include both computations and experiments. The research covers a wide range of topics. In some research projects the smallest turbulent scales are studied whereas in others the function of a complete gas turbine is analyzed and modelled. The Division of Fluid Dynamics is part of Chalmers Sustainable Transport Initiative, Chalmers eScience Initiative and Chalmers Energy Initiative.
Information about the project
This project focusses on combining advanced experimental and theoretical methodologies: (i) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to measure flows and concentrations inside a reactor in real-time as a function of process parameters; (ii) computational fluid dynamic simulations to develop new models based on experimental MRI results to design large-scale reactors and (iii) lifecycle analyses, which are sensitive to process parameters for the assessment of the overall environmental effects of the studied CCU processes.
The position will involve reporting current research results in both written and oral form as well as authoring scientific research publications.
Major responsibilities
Your major responsibility as postdoc is to perform your own research in a research group. The position also includes teaching on undergraduate and master's levels as well as supervising master's and/or PhD students to a certain extent. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.
Position summary
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1).
Qualifications
To qualify for the two positions as a postdoc, you must have a doctoral degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, industrial ecology or mechanical engineering or similar; the degree should generally not be older than three years. In these positions you need to have experience in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computational fluid dynamics (CFD) or lifecycle analysis (LCA). It´s meritous if you have experience in advanced CFD analysis for multiphase or reactive flows; monitoring chemical reactions with MRI;if you have two of the above mandatory skills.
You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education. The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Swedish is not a requirement but if you have an interest in learning Swedish, Chalmers offers Swedish courses.
Chalmers continuously strives to be an attractive employer. Equality and diversity are substantial foundations in all activities at Chalmers.
