Arbetsbeskrivning
This is about our lives and natural resources, about energy, materials recycling and materials development. With our focus on sustainable development we work with research and education of the highest quality for smarter materials and smarter processes, for improved health and a better environment.
We have approximately 300 employees, divided into four research divisions and one administrative unit. We are situated at campus Johanneberg.
Our department is characterized by inspiring world-leading research, in an environment of personal development and creation of new knowledge.
Information about the project
The overall goal of the project is to study reorganisation of molecular components of the biological membranes in response to external chemical stimuli during cell migration.
The objective of the first project is to build the model systems of cell membranes and its compartments to study behaviour of individual membrane components while responding to chemical gradient (such as calcium ions gradient). Knowledge and experience with biomimetic materials, such as lipid bilayers, soft-matter physics, biophysics of cell membrane and fluorescence microscopy are advantageous.
The second project uses biological cells to verify and further extend the inside in the membrane behaviour obtained using the model systems. In this project, handling biological cells and extracting particular lipids and cell membrane compartments will be required.
Major responsibilities
The successful candidate is expected to perform studies on the project and publish results in the leading scientific journals and conferences. Position also implies taking part in student supervising and teaching. The project will be carried within groups of graduate students and post-docs, thus excellent communication skills and ability to work in the group are required.
Position summary
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1).
Qualifications
To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must have a doctoral degree in Chemistry, Physics, Material Science or Biology. The degree should generally not be older than three years. Knowledge and experience in the following areas is advantageous: biophysics of cell membrane, biomimetic materials, soft-matter physics, and fluorescence microscopy. Excellent team-working and presentation skills, as well as fluency in English are required. Knowledge of cell biology is a merit.
