Two research assistants for biodiversity project

Arbetsbeskrivning

Department of Ecology
At the Ecology Centre of the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), in Uppsala, Sweden, we conduct research on populations, communities and ecosystems. We generate knowledge on how land use and climate affects animals, plants, nutrient cycling and greenhouse gas balance, and develop sustainable solutions for the future. Active outreach and frequent dialogue with stakeholders are key activities.
Duties:
We are looking for two technical assistants to conduct both field and laboratory work in project LIFEPLAN (https://www.helsinki.fi/en/projects/lifeplan). This is a major, six-year initiative funded by the European Research Council (ERC). During the snow-free period, both technical assistants will mainly conduct multi-scale sampling (see https://www.helsinki.fi/en/node/83770) and targeted experiments in Sweden. During the winter months, the assistants will pre-process samples of different types in Uppsala.

Qualifications:
The successful candidates should hold a training as e.g. biologists or biomedical laboratory analysts. Sincs they are expected to do both laboratory and field work, we expect previous, documented experience of each type of tasks. To be able to successfully complete their various tasks, the candidates should be able to take initiative and work independently as well as in a team. During the summer months, they will spend protracted periods in field conditions, away from home. A driver’s license and at least one year of driving experience are mandatory qualifications. We put strong emphasis on personal characters such as collaborative skills.
