Unity Developer / Functionality Lead - Virtual Complete Vehicle

Arbetsbeskrivning

Who are we?
Volvo Cars is a company on a mission; to bring traditional car manufacturing into a connected, sustainable and smart future.
Since 1927, we have been a brand known for our commitment to safety, creating innovative cars that make life less complicated for our consumers. In 2010, we decided to transform our business, resulting in a totally new generation of cars and technologies, as well as steady growth and record sales. Today, we’re expanding our global footprint in Europe, China and the US, and we’re on the lookout for new talent.
We are constantly pushing our own skills and abilities to drive change in the automobile industry like never before. We are looking for innovative, committed people to join us in this endeavour and create safe, sustainable and connected cars. We believe in the power of people and will challenge and support you to reach your full potential. Join us and be part of Volvo Cars’ journey into the future.

We are looking for a Unity Developer / Functionality Lead to join the Product Simulator team within R&D at Volvo Cars Headquarters in Gothenburg.

Who are we?
The Product Simulator team leads the development of enablers for virtual complete vehicle validation. These enablers range from workflow and collaboration optimisation to the development of interactive real-time 3D solutions. Our main enabler is Product Simulator, an integration and validation software that combines car geometry, functionality, digital interaction, and other aspects that make up the virtual car. This is then placed in a virtual environment and connected to suitable test equipment, such as virtual reality headsets, driving simulators or simply keyboard and mouse.

The Product Simulator software is used for interactive visualisation of concepts & solutions for individual domains, as well as for user experience development, management reviews etc. for complete vehicle evaluation and decision making. Product Simulator enables us to test the overall end-user experience before (and after) we have built any physical prototypes.

What you’ll do
As a member of this team, you will get to experience the excitement of seeing our future products come to life in the virtual world, and through the power of interactive real-time 3D help the organisation improving them even further.

As Unity Developer / Functionality Lead, you will be responsible for ensuring that Product Simulator has the necessary outputs and visualizations needed for co-simulation with the real product’s functionality. You will also identify the most important engineering tools and use cases in the functionality domain and steer the development of Product Simulator to become compatible with these. Product Simulator is developed using C# in the Unity game engine.

Examples of concrete things you will do in this role:
•    Set up and refine controllers for animating moving parts and lights.
•    Define editor scripts that streamline asset updates based on the latest engineering data.
•    Define suitable communication and features for co-simulation.
•    Streamline collaborations and workflows with departments within R&D and Design.

You and your skills
We see that you have an Engineering degree in Computer Science, Mechatronics, Physics or similar, as well as advanced C# programming skills. You have proven experience from a game engine, such as having done several and/or large projects or being certified, as well as experience from applying Newton’s laws and simplified vehicle dynamics (e.g., from mechanics course at university). You are proficient in using version control systems, especially Git, and fluent in English (working proficiency).

In this role and team, skills and experience from SW testing and quality assurance, X-in-the-loop systems, management of technically complex projects involving lots of people and domains, incl. inspiring others to act, everything related to real-time 3D such as trends, best practices, use cases, XR etc, as well as domain knowledge from one or more fields within automotive development will be highly appreciated and useful but not necessary.

On a personal level, you are a helpful and collaborative person with great attention to detail and an architectural mindset.
