Arbetsbeskrivning
The School of Humanities and Media Studies is looking to recruit a Senior Lecturer in English, Specialisation Linguistics, to join its English Department. Dalarna University has twelve language departments that teach most of their courses online, net-based teaching being a feature of the University for which it is nationally recognised. Broad in scope, the English Department offers Master’s programmes in linguistics and literary studies; teacher education programmes at all levels; courses in English for Specific Purposes; and preparatory academic courses. It also offers a large number of free-standing courses. The English Department is active and dynamic within research in the areas of linguistics, literature and didactics. Now, as a result of its popular and relatively new Master’s Programme in Applied Linguistics, there is a need to expand on departmental expertise through the recruitment of a Senior Lecturer.
Duties and Responsibilities
As Senior Lecturer, you will contribute to strategic development of the linguistic environment through involvement in higher seminars, and the development of both courses and professional competence. Subject-related research is conducted primarily within two of the University’s research profiles, namely Intercultural Studies, and Education and Learning. Both profiles offer a dynamic and active environment with opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration.
The skills you bring with you will be important for developments within the subject in relation to the following:
- teaching at the undergraduate level in the areas of academic writing, English linguistics and linguistic methodology
- supervision and examination of degree projects in English with a specialisation in linguistics at the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels
- teaching at the Master’s level in the relevant disciplines of Applied Linguistics
- related administrative duties
It is important that you have expertise that will help develop teaching within the subject. For example, we currently have a course in the Master’s Programme that we plan to develop with a suitable specialisation. As well, we have a great deal of collaboration with external stakeholders through two university centres: the Centre for Educational Development (PUD) in relation to teacher education; and Dalarna’s Centre for Intercultural Research and Development (IKUD), which involves close work with the humanities and social sciences.
Qualifications and Experience
In accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the Recruitment Procedures for Teachers at Dalarna University, a candidate is deemed qualified for employment as Senior Lecturer by demonstrating teaching skills, holding a doctoral degree or having equivalent research competence or other professional skills that are of significance in terms of the subject content for the position and work duties. Research competence and teaching expertise are assessed according to the criteria stated in the Recruitment Procedures for Teachers at Dalarna University.
The position requires that you have
- a doctoral degree in English with a specialisation in linguistics (or equivalent)
- documented teaching and supervisory skills in linguistics
- excellent collaboration skills and are able to take the initiative and be accountable in your work since there will be a great deal of team work and contact with external stakeholders
For this position, it is especially desirable that you have
- a strong background in research with specialisation in applied areas of linguistics
- English for Specific Purposes research and teaching experience
- documented experience of net-based teaching
For this position, it is desirable that you
- have documented experience of teaching and supervising degree projects in English linguistics
- have attained the Teaching and Learning in Higher Education qualification
- are able to be on campus on a regular basis
