The Institute of Health and Care Sciences is at the forefront both nationally and internationally concerning person-centred care. Person-centred care is present in education, research as well as innovation. The Institute is organised according to academic areas made up by interdisciplinary profiles: Care in long-term conditions; The Life Context and Health Promotion; Diagnostics, Acute and Critical Care and Learning and Leadership for Health Care Professionals. The purpose of having academic areas is to integrate the Institute’s joint competence in order to promote quality in education, research and collaboration.
The Institute of Health and Care Sciences offers a number of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes for nurses, radiographers, midwives and specialist nurses. The basic training courses for nurses and radiographers lead to a professional degree as well as a bachelor's degree. The training of midwives and the different courses for specialist nurses lead to a professional registration in combination with a master's degree. All professional programmes lead to a professional registration. Moreover, contract education and freestanding courses are offered at an advanced level, offering the possibility to continue studying towards a master's degree in one of the Institute’s main subjects; nursing, reproductive and perinatal health, radiography and health care pedagogics. The Institute also offers the possibility to study for a PhD degree in Health Care Sciences.
The administrative staff at the Institute, is organised into an administrative section. Further, the Institute hosts a centre for research and expertise, The Centre for Person-centred care (GPCC).

Subject area description
Health care sciences focus on a person’s experiences of illness, disease and suffering, first in connection with rehabilitation, maintenance and promotion of health and second in relation to the biological body and sociocultural structures. The human learning as well as the organisation of health care are central components of healthcare sciences.
Job assignments
The position belongs mainly to the section for Learning and Leadership for health care professionals but the activities will be performed in collaboration with other sections at the Institute.
The main activities consist of teaching scientific, qualitative, and quantitative methodology to first cycle students both within freestanding courses and within the Institute’s range of education programmes. The work involves planning the courses, teaching and performing summative assessments, as well as coordinating resources and working towards continuity across them. You will also be providing supervision and performing summative assessments in courses on a first cycle level across the Institute’s range of education programmes.
The position as a course coordinator involves developing and coordinating learning objectives, learning activities, examination formats and evaluation criteria in relation to content, purpose and current pedagogical research as well as quality assuring the education using validated evaluation methods. Administrative tasks related to the teaching activities are included in the position, including publishing/updating course information, communication with students, reporting results in different IT-systems.
We expect our colleagues to work actively towards achieving the Institute’s goals and work plan as well as participating in planned joint meetings and activities and to contribute towards the academic environment in your section. In addition, colleagues are expected to participate in joint meetings and activities organised at the Institute.
Eligibility
The eligibility for employment as a teacher is stated in the University of Gothenburg's own employment procedure.
Further requirements are a Master’s degree in Health Care Sciences (Health Sciences, Medical Biotechnology or any other field in Social Sciences) and shown pedagogical expertise.
Assessment
Documented pedagogical experience from teaching at a university. In the evaluation of applicants, attention will be paid to the applicants’ experience of teaching within Health Care Sciences, i.e. qualitative and quantitative methodology, ethics and supervision of degree projects on a first cycle level. Knowledge of person-centred care is a merit.
As the Institute’s approach is based on person-centeredness, we are looking for a candidate who has a collaborative and flexible approach with teachers and students and a good ability to create good relation. Further, administrative and organisational skills will be considered. Teaching will be in Swedish, on occasionally in English, thus a good knowledge of Swedish and English in writing and speech is required.
A successful candidate, who does not have a qualification for teaching and learning in higher education, is expected to complete such a training within a year from the start of the employment.
The university will through this recruitment make a holistic assessment of aptitude and skills and select the applicant which is deemed to have the best pre-requisites to conduct and develop current tasks of the position, interact and cooperate externally and internally, as well as contributing to a positive development of the operations.
