Arbetsbeskrivning
The Institute of Health and Care Sciences is at the forefront both nationally and internationally concerning person-centred care. Person-centred care is present in education, research as well as innovation. The Institute is organised according to academic areas made up by interdisciplinary profiles: Care in long-term conditions; The Life Context and Health Promotion; Diagnostics, Acute and Critical Care and Learning and Leadership for Health Care Professionals. The purpose of having academic areas is to integrate the Institute’s joint competence in order to promote quality in education, research and collaboration.
The Institute of Health and Care Sciences offers a number of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes as well as individual academic courses within the first and second cycle of higher education. The basic training courses for nurses and radiographers lead to a professional degree as well as a bachelor's degree. The training of midwives and the different courses for specialist nurses lead to a professional registration in combination with a master's degree. All professional programmes lead to a professional registration. Moreover, the freestanding courses are offered at an advanced level, providing the possibility to continue studying towards a master's degree in one of the institute’s main topics; nursing, reproductive and perinatal health, radiography and health care pedagogics. The institute also offers a postgraduate programme leading to a PhD degree in Health Care Sciences.
Subject area
Nursing
Subject area description
In nursing, students study the knowledge about health, living a good life despite disease and/or disability and having a peaceful and dignified passing. Nursing emanates from needs and problems related to health and ill-health and daily life, but also from people’s resources and abilities to cope with problems. Ill-health/disease/disability do not per se form the focus in nursing, rather it is about people’s reactions and interpretations of their disease. The core in nursing is about a close relation between the nurse, patient and close family and friends.
