As a Senior Unreal Environment Artist you will create jaw-dropping real-time scenes for the coolest shows in the VFX business! You and the brand new real-time team we’re assembling, together with some of the most talented people from the VFX world, will push the boundaries of what is possible and take the merge of VFX and real-time to the next level.
While working closely with other talented individuals from various departments, you will be responsible for creating stunning environments based on concept art, references and the vision of the supervisor or director. This being a creative and hands-on position, having a good eye and being capable of producing great looking results in a wide array of styles and looks is essential.
You will help establish and explore technical approaches suitable for different projects and define workflows thereafter. You will also lead the work of more junior artists as well as help train VFX artists that are new to Unreal.
Your work will include:
Conceptualizing, building, texturing and lighting real-time worlds in tight collaboration with supervisors, directors and concept department
Modelling, texturing and shading detailed props and objects according to concepts, references and/or art direction
Collaborating with technical artists to strive for achieving the highest visual quality while working within memory, performance and other run-time requirements and constraints
Using existing assets to populate the world in a believable and visually appealing way
Educating artists in environment creation techniques, workflows and best practices
You need the following:
Thorough and demonstrated knowledge of creating environments in a next generation, real time pipeline
Expert knowledge of at least one major modeling package (Maya, Blender or equivalent)
Experience with industry standard tools for asset creation such as Substance Painter/Designer, Quixel Megascans, Mudbox/Zbrush etc.
Strong understanding of Lighting and PBR Shading
Knowledge of efficient work methods for scattering, instancing and data management in large scale scenes.
Experience in photogrammetry
Good sense for quality, both for what looks, feels and works right and how to take it to the next level
The ability to take ownership of your work and push it to world-class standards
An organised way of working - creating scenes and structures that can easily be picked up by other people
Good communication skills
A humble and helpful attitude
Experience in the following areas are considered a plus:
Houdini - (scattering, scene assembly, Houdini Engine etc)
Concept art
Blueprint scripting
