Up to 10 Industrial Ph.d Positions

Up to 10 Industrial Ph.d Positions

Arbetsbeskrivning

Our overall vision is to establish an internationally competitive industrial research school that provides access to expertise and infrastructure, as well as excellent internationally relevant R&D in the area of collaborative AI&Robotics. The aim is to develop AI solutions as an integral part of a sustainable, digital society contributing to the growth of industry. By collaborative AI, we mean in short, AI&Robotic systems that are capable to team-up with humans and to work with and for humans. We subscribe to the view that to augment human intelligence, rather than replacing it, it is essential to move from human vs. machine to human AND machine environments.

We are now offering up to 10 positions at Örebro University for our Industrial Research School Collaborative AI and Robotics  - CoAIRob. We are looking for candidates with a strong technical background in computer science or engineering that can join the research school and drive the field of artificial intelligence and autonomous systems forward. For the successful candidate, the programme will conclude with the award a Ph. D in Computer Science. The start date of the programme is Spring of 2021. PhD research will be done in tight interaction with industry and partially placed at the industrial partner.

Research at Örebro University is strongly focused on developing autonomous systems that can collaborate with humans. We study methods for interpreting sensor data, transforming sensor data into symbolic representations, integrating symbolic and sub-symbolic methods, knowledge representation and awareness of humans, social context, and norms for interaction. Various aspects of AI related to human-machine and human-robot interaction have been studied, including novel ways to develop AI systems that interact with users (including non-technical novice users). Nationally, the research in AI and Robotics at Örebro is leading, and this is evidenced by the University’s involvement in a number of high profile initiatives related to AI (see oru.se/ai).  Örebro University is highly active in the relevant European forums and platforms, including the AI4EU and AIPlan4EU platforms, and several EU-funded research projects.

At Örebro University, basic research and various applications are interwoven in a natural way. Research applications are found among heavy industrial vehicles, smart environments (e.g., smart cities), service robots, and much more. Within the Örebro region, we have established a strong application infrastructure through a test bed environment within AI and Autonomous Systems, with particular emphasis on how AI can strengthen small and medium-sized companies by providing access to infrastructure and equipment.
