Infotainment systems is one of the fastest growing areas within Automotive today. Competition is no longer limited to traditional automotive competitors, as innovative and fast-moving companies like Google and Apple are also starting to get involved in the area. The Connected Experience unit within R&D includes Connectivity and Car Cloud Platform, Infotainment Platform, Applications and Data & Diagnostics. Our vision and strategy is to maximize the attractiveness of owning and using a Volvo, make all cars connected and provide a continuously enhanced experience for both new and existing cars.
Our Organization
Our teams work in an agile manner organized according to SAFe to be able to quickly adjust to changing requirements. To strengthen and accelerate the transformation, we are now looking for an experienced and passionate software developer who understands modern app architecture patterns but also has a good eye for UX and design.
What you’ll do
As an UX Tech Lead, you will play a key part in defining leading-edge design solutions without compromising the technical quality or usability. Therefore, it is of great importance that you have a broad technical understanding of general platforms (e.g. Android, Unreal, iOS) and frameworks (e.g. Android UI framework, Qt, Unity) for UX implementation. You will have a holistic view of the complete HMI system (graphics, sound, speech, etc) and will be the main contact point between technical and design organizations at Volvo Cars. You will be part of a bigger tech lead arena where you drive investigations and architectural decisions. You will lead by example in the software development phase as well as driving principles and guidelines that will enable reusable, scalable and maintainable UX applications. Good presentation and communication skills are important to efficiently drive change and secure good user experience and quality in our products.
Who you are
You would carry a M.Sc in Software Engineering or equivalent experience through years of practice, along with at least 10 years of software development in various projects. You would bring good knowledge of scalable HMI architecture and component layout as well as good practices within component usage, such as understanding material and visual design, resource structuring, animations and transitions.
You would also bring experience in Android application development and are familiar with modern app architectural patterns (MVP, MVVM, layered architecture, refactoring). You have good knowledge of how to test in different development phases (e.g. automatic test automation) as well as how to work with data-driven development both on methods and analytics.
You have good understanding of the non-functional aspects such as security, reliability, performance, maintainability, scalability, and usability as well as the ability to work with both short-term and long-term solutions at the same time. You should have an interest and good feeling for new technologies that enable interaction, visualization, personalization and dispositions. You have a holistic view of the complete HMI system (graphics, sound, speech, etc). You would bring experience and good understanding of how to work together with design organization as well as good understanding of interaction principles and design language.
Furthermore, it is meritorious if you are familiar with working in a Linux environment and with Continuous Integration, as well as having a driver’s license.
As a person you strive for development and challenges through your pro-active attitude, you are self-motivated, with a strong delivery orientation. We are a global company and therefore you have to be fluent in English and can communicate effectively with all types of stakeholders. You are analytical and a problem-solver - aware of that there are multiple solutions for a problem. Last but not least, you enjoy learning from others, as well as, sharing your knowledge with your colleagues.
