The purpose of this thesis work is to evaluate and conclude which possibilities exist and are feasible to use in creating a versatile optimal Gear Selection controller. The plan is to utilize vehicle data provided by both physical and virtual sensors in combination with a model that describes the Truck behavior to create a control strategy. The solution must be versatile and easy to transfer between different driveline concepts as well as handling different requests from the drivers when it comes to drivability.
The exact goals of the project will be defined when the thesis starts, but a preliminary list of goals include:
Study the state-of-the-art literature on optimal control theory and strategy
Investigate and conclude possible ways to utilize optimal controllers, e.g., MPC and DP, for gear selection
Benchmark different solutions, listing strengths and weaknesses
Integrate the solution into an embedded system and test it on target
