Overview
The Vice President Compliance & Ethics acts as staff to the Company and the SCA Compliance Council by developing and driving the SCA Group compliance program. The role also includes monitoring and reporting results of the compliance and ethics efforts of the company, as well as providing guidance for the Board and senior management team on matters relating to compliance. The VP Compliance & Ethics, together with the SCA Compliance Council, is authorized to implement all necessary actions to ensure compliance with the rules and regulations of regulatory agencies, that company policies and instructions are being followed, and that behaviour in the organization meets SCA’s Code of Conduct. The position is Global, across all business units and functions. The VP Compliance and Ethics will be based in the SCA HQ, Stockholm, and will report to Senior Vice President Sustainability, Kersti Strandqvist.
Main Tasks
Co-ordinates and oversees the SCA Group compliance framework and program and secures a systematic approach to implementation.
Develops, initiates, maintains and revises policies in co-operation with policy owners (Legal, HR, Sustainability, Finance, Communications and others) for the general operation of the compliance program and its related activities to prevent illegal, unethical or improper conduct. Oversees and supports local application of relevant policies and instructions.
Develops and periodically updates the SCA Code of Conduct to ensure continuing alignment with changing legislation and frameworks and guidelines from UN, OECD, ILO and other relevant organizations.
Identifies potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk; develops/implements corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues, and provides guidance on how to avoid or remedy similar situations in the future.
Monitors, and as necessary, coordinates compliance activities of other departments to remain abreast of the status of all compliance activities and to identify trends (Conduct inspections, audits and investigations periodically to assess staff readiness and to specifically identify where corrective actions are needed – TBD).
Provides guidance to senior management in risk, ethics and compliance matters in relation to M&A, new market entries, sourcing and others as applicable.
Develops and oversees a system for uniform handling of violations of regulations, policies, instructions and the SCA Code of Conduct.
Acts as an independent review and evaluation body to ensure that compliance issues/concerns within the organization are being appropriately evaluated, investigated and resolved. Collaborates with other departments (Legal, Finance, HR, Internal audit etc.) to direct compliance issues to appropriate existing channels for investigation and resolution.
Establishes and provides direction and oversees the management of the internal complaints system and of the external Hotline.
Provides reports on a regular basis to keep the SCA Compliance Council and senior management informed of the operation and progress of compliance efforts. Ensures proper reporting of violations and potential violations to the SCA Compliance Council
Institutes and maintains an effective training and communication program for the organization including the understanding of new and existing compliance issues and related policies and instructions. Works with HR, Legal, Communications and others as appropriate to develop an effective compliance training program, including appropriate introductory training for new employees as well as ongoing training for employees and managers.
Monitors the performance of the Compliance program and relates activities on a continuing basis, taking appropriate steps to improve its effectiveness.
Key Competencies
University degree or equivalent within law or finance
A minimum of 10 years experience within FMCG or similar in an international environment, to include demonstrated leadership skills. Knowledge of operational, financial, HR procedures and regulations is a must.
