WWF is hiring a Programme Manager to coordinate and provide support for WWF’s global Arctic Programme. The WWF Arctic Programme advances a well-managed, biodiverse and resilient Arctic through advocacy and implementation of strategic conservation initiatives, led by a team of multi-disciplinary experts. The Programme Manager supports the overall implementation and administration of Arctic Programme initiatives and reports directly to the Director of WWF’s global Arctic Programme. This role is rather broad and you will be expected to take on a variety of tasks - from small administrative tasks, to larger strategic thinking.
We are looking for a strong programme manager who is energetic, self-motivated and has previous international experience. You will work from WWF’s office in Sweden but hold responsibility for coordinating conservation and advocacy initiatives for WWF’s work throughout the Arctic. The role involves building and maintaining excellent working relationships within the Arctic Programme team, with WWF’s Arctic Offices and with the WWF global network. This position offers an exciting opportunity to have a pivotal coordinating role in working to tackle the challenges facing the Arctic.
The person in this role will
- Be responsible for ensuring that reporting - both financial and technical - is carried out in line with contracts and agreed quality requirements.
- Monitor, track progress of, and report on strategy implementation and organize the evaluation of the programme.
- Coordinate the Arctic Programme’s work and budget planning, and ensure all operational elements needed are in place.
- Work closely with WWF Sweden’s finance team and Arctic Programme donors to ensure funding resources and strategic allocations.
- Draft and negotiate intra-network and external MOUs, funding agreements, and contracts, write statements of work and budgets.
- Serve as Secretariat for the Arctic Programme’s Steering Committee.
- Collaborate with Arctic Programme team members, providing programme management expertise and tools to conservation work streams and communications strategies.
- Bring forward implementation issues and possible solutions in a constructive and timely manner to WWF Arctic Programme Director, colleagues and the Steering Committee.
Key qualities
The successful candidate should show evidence of the following attributes:
- Demonstrated experience in the design, development and implementation of strategic initiatives and activities.
- Proven programme management experience, including experience in all stages of a project.
- Demonstrated organizational and time management skills, with ability to multi-task, produce and coordinate projects meeting deadlines.
- Experience working in an international program with the ability to work effectively across multiple countries, cultures and time zones.
- Well-developed problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated adaptability, flexibility, initiative, sound judgment, political sensitivity and awareness, tact and diplomacy.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to maintain relationships.
- Knowledge of the WWF Network or experience working in network organizations would be an advantage.
- Prior organizational governance experience is an asset.
About you
- A management degree (Masters or higher preferred).
- Minimum 5 years experience in programme management.
- Bilingual English/Swedish (functional literacy).
- Proactive, self-motivated person who works well within a team but demonstrates ability for autonomy and is not shy to ask for information or advice.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully handle multiple, time-critical tasks.
- Ability to travel for meetings and visit project sites.
- Ability to work as part of a team with little direct supervision.
- Generates ideas, is solutions-oriented, constructive in debates, well-organized, passionate, and is inspirational to others.
